About Clifden Hedz Academy

Displaying supreme skills since the beginning of his career Creative Director and Owner of ‘Hedz’ Damian Manning was training staff and managing a salon in Belfast at the age of 19 and  has received extensive training in both teaching and advanced colouring, he has also attended classic, contemporary and advanced cutting courses through Vidal Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles, USA.

After spending six years working and training in Los Angeles in renowned Salons such as the Carlton and Linear group International  where he amassed a wealth of experience working extensively on Runway Shows, theatre and film productions, Damian returned to Clifden, Ireland to open ‘Hedz’ in 1999.

Damian is a strong believer in the saying “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail” and it is because of this philosophy he has always encouraged and is committed to the education and training of his team.  This ethos has been exhibited further when, in 2010, Clifden Hedz Academy became FETAC approved. Clifden Hedz Academy distinguishes itself by providing small class sizes where they can offer excellent education in a warm, intimate yet high-tech and modern academy.

Currently, Clifden Hedz Academy is working towards  receiving City & Guilds approval as a private provider which is a natural progression from FETAC level 5 in terms of course delivery and learner education.

Hairdressing is a diverse profession that can continue to grow and is a fantastic transitional career. Hedz offers a wide range of courses most notably a FETAC level 5 in Hairdressing science, theory and practice. Courses can be delivered on a part time basis one day a week or two evenings a week with the FETAC courses free for participants who are receiving social welfare or HSE payment.

Clifden Hedz Academy provides a unique experience that is more like working in a hair salon, and uses a ‘Learn by doing’ approach, where students use mannequin heads to practice on. This approach means students enjoy hands-on education, which prepares them for the salon environment. Students emerge with the technical ability, confidence, and communication skills required to be comfortable serving clients. The Academy training room is available for private hire for meetings and courses.

What makes us different to other hairdressing academies?
